On August 5, local time, more than 30 U.S. business groups, including the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, from retailers, chip manufacturers, farmers and other sectors of the most influential U.S. business groups, warned that continuing to retain tariffs on Chinese goods would drag down the U.S. economy. They called on the Biden administration to restart trade talks with China as soon as possible and to eliminate tariffs.

According to the Wall Street Journal, since the Biden administration came to power, it has maintained the policy of imposing tariffs on China's related imports since the trump administration took office. At present, about half of the goods imported by the United States from China have been subject to tariffs, and they are paid by American importers.

In response, more than 30 business groups, in a letter to us trade representative Katherine Tai and U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on the 5th, mentioned a policy of focusing on labor interests of the Biden administration, saying, "the labor-centered trade agenda should take into account the cost that the United States and China impose tariffs on Americans, Tariffs detrimental to the interests of the United States should be eliminated. "

In the letter, business groups stressed that the Chinese government had previously met and fulfilled the "important benchmarks and commitments" in the agreement, and "we would like to express our support for continued engagement with China on Trade and economic issues." At the same time, the letter also includes strong support for the first phase of Sino US economic and trade agreement.

According to the report, the Biden administration has never indicated whether it intends to maintain the tariffs imposed on Chinese goods, nor has it sent a signal on whether to implement the first phase of Sino US economic and trade agreement or seek to extend the agreement. Earlier, U.S. government officials have said the assessment is expected to continue until some time this autumn. However, judging from the statements of these industry organizations, the majority of American enterprises have been increasingly disappointed with the speed of the Biden administration's evaluation of China's trade and economic policies.

It is understood that these groups include some of the most influential large business associations in Washington. In addition to the above-mentioned National Chamber of Commerce, there are Business Roundtable, National Retail Federation, and American Farm Bureau Federation and semiconductor industry association, etc.

Currently, spokesmen for the USTR office and the Treasury Department did not respond to requests for comment.

On the other hand, at a regular press conference held by the Ministry of Commerce of China last month (July 15), some media mentioned that China's imports of agricultural products from the United States increased by 120.8% year-on-year in the first half of the year. Does this mean that the first phase of Sino US economic and trade agreement is still in implementation? At that time, Gao Feng, a spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, said that the first phase of the Sino US economic and trade agreement was beneficial to China, the United States and the whole world. We have always stressed that both sides should work together to create an atmosphere and conditions to promote the implementation of the agreement.
